Upon graduation from Mississippi College School of Law, Tommy joined one of the largest law firm’s in Mississippi, where he handled a diverse practice of civil litigation, employment law, domestic relations, and criminal defense. Tommy also served as a special prosecutor for the city of Ridgeland.
In 2009, Tommy was hired as an Assistant District Attorney for the Fifth Circuit Court District of Mississippi. As an Assistant District Attorney, he prosecuted numerous felony cases from drug sales to capital murders. While an Assistant District Attorney, Tommy served on the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Prosecutor’s Association and on their legislative committee.
Before starting the Whitfield Law Group, Tommy returned to private practice as a partner at Kitchens Hardwick & Whitfield, PLLC, where he represented various government entities in state and federal litigation, as well as, continued his domestic relations and criminal defense practice.
Prior to law school, Tommy served for nearly a decade as a deputy sheriff with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department in Starkville, Mississippi.
August 2018 – Tommy successfully defended the dismissal of a conspiracy case brought pursuant to 42 U.S.C. Sections1983, 1985 and 1986 that was on appeal to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals after all claims were dismissed at summary judgment. The Appellate Court affirmed the Motion to Dismiss as to all claims. |
June 2018 – Tommy successfully defended the dismissal of a sex discrimination claim that was on appeal to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals after all claims were dismissed at summary judgment. The Appellate Court affirmed the grant of summary judgment as to all claims. |
April 2018 – Robbie and Tommy won summary judgment in an employee contract case. All claims were dismissed with prejudice. |
March 2018 – Tommy won an appeal in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals upholding summary judgment in an employment discrimination case. |
March 2018 – Tommy won summary judgment in an employment discrimination case alleging disparate treatment based on race. All claims were dismissed with prejudice |
December 2017 – Tommy won summary judgment in an employment discrimination case alleging disparate treatment based on gender. All claims were dismissed with prejudice. |
December 2017 – Tommy won summary judgment in an employment discrimination case based on wrongful termination. All claims were dismissed with prejudice. |
April 2017 – Tommy won summary judgment in an employment discrimination case alleging different employee discipline based on race. All claims were dismissed with prejudice. |
February 2017 – Tommy and Robbie won a jury verdict in an employee discrimination and retaliation case in U.S. District Court. The jury dismissed all claims. |
